The farmhouse that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables.
Green Gables Heritage Place is the real farmhouse and grounds that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery's world-famous 1908 novel. Operated by Parks Canada, the site includes the restored house, Haunted Wood and Balsam Hollow trails, a modern visitor centre with hands-on exhibits, and a bookshop packed with Anne memorabilia.
Even if you have never read the books, the setting is quintessential PEI — apple orchards, red-earth lanes, and split-rail fences. Kids love the barn, and the interpretive staff bring the story to life. Plan on 1.5 to 2 hours.
Tips from your hosts
- Buy tickets online in July/August — the lot fills by mid-morning.
- Walk the Haunted Wood trail through to the Site of L.M. Montgomery's Cavendish Home for the full literary tour.
